Pulwama, February 12 (KNO) : One Army man and a militant were on Tuesday killed in a fierce gunfight in Ratnipora village of Pulwama District. Two militants have also managed to give forces a slip. The gunfight started after government forces including 50 RR cordoned off the area following the specific inputs about the presence of militants there. The militants hiding in the area fired upon the search party, which was retaliated, leading to the gunfight. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, Swayam Prakash Pani said that one militant identified as Hilal Ahmad was killed in the gunfight. “Hilal was involved helping escape of top Lashkar Commander Naveed Jutt from central jail last year,” IGP said. Naveed jutt was also killed few months before in the gunfight in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district. “In Pulwama encounter, one soldier was also killed. The militant killed in the gunfight was wanted in many cases. De-induction has been smoothly completed,” police said, adding that further investigation is underway. Official sources told KNO that the body of militant was later recovered from the site. "Only one body has been recovered from the site. We had credible inputs of more militants hiding in the area, they might have escaped,” they said. They said that at least two militants are believed to have escaped from the gunfight site. “In the gunfight three army men were injured among them two succumbed at the medical facility,” they said. "During the gunfight, two soldiers Havaldar Baljeet of 50RR and Naik Saneed of 10 Para of army were killed while injured soldier has been identified as Chanderpal of 50RR and his condition is stated to be stable at army’s 92 Base Hospital Srinagar,” officials said.
